Safari Boat Excursions to Lanai

Today my friend Bill and I went out on Safari Boat Excursions to Lanai. It was Kona winds so Captain Dave took us to the North side of Lanai to see whales and explore the shipwreck of a World War Two era "Liberty Ship" that was used to bring supplies throughout the Pacific theater during the war. We also had some very close encounters with a pod of whales on the way over which you can see in the video below. - Jake Barefoot

Aloha Blue Bottom Fishing

One of my favorite things to do is to go fishing. I like to fish from a Kayak, from shore, go sportfishing off a fishing boat in the deep sea, spearfish. Any kind of fishing count me in. Today we went out with Aloha Blue Charters to go bottom fishing. One of the nice parts of this trip is the crew of the boat allows you to take whatever fish you catch home with you to eat. This worked out great for us because we didn't just fish, we caught. We caught not only one, but two yellow spotted Papio. These fish are a smaller cousin of the Giant Trevally (Ulua). The larger of the two was just over 10lbs and made for a delightful dinner.

Haleakala Bike Company

One of my college buddies was visiting and we used to go mountain biking together quite a bit in our Southern Oregon University days. We wanted to go on a ride but were looking for something a little less "tame" then the guided bike rides so we opted to check out Haleakala Bike Companies unguided tour where they drop you off and you can ride down at your own pace. This made for a very different experience, we could go at our own pace (which in our case was FAST!) but the downside was we had to be very alert to the traffic and hazards in the road. We paid attention, rode safe and had a great time!
