Going snorkeling on the Catamaran Kahanu felt more like going out on one of my friends private boats then most commercial charters do. The crew consisted of the Captain and the First Mate and the boat was large enough to be comfortable yet small enough to be able to tour very close to the shoreline. The crew shared some fantastic stories and facts about the area throughout and I think it is very safe to say that I was not the only one on the boat that had a good time. Today we went on a Dinner Cruise with Holo Holo Charters. This cruise took a very scenic route that went along the Napali Coastline. This stretch of coastline is one of the most beautiful areas in the world and has been chosen as the set for many Hollywood films. We enjoyed dinner and cocktails as we took in the sunset over the island of Ni'ihau. For more information click here
This early express morning snorkel trip with the Kai Kanani left from the Makena area and was able to take us out to Molokini as well as Turtle Town and have us back by 9:00am. The large catamaran provided plenty of deck space for the group to spread out as well as easy entry into the water from the swim step in the front or the gate on the side. Wake Maui is a company that offers wakeboarding and wakesurfing tours off of the western coastline of Maui. Although they have been around for a while I have never been out with them before. I elected to try the wakesurf board and I was impressed with how fun and easy it was. Wake Maui offers private as well as shared wake boarding sessions.
Going snorkeling with Aqua Adventures was a great start to what turned out to be an amazing day. We experienced smooth sailing on the way out to Molokini and excellent water clarity upon arrival. After we were done with our snorkeling here the boat continued on to turtle arches. We spent some time here swimming through the arches and observing the sea turtles. For more information click here.
This morning I met the "Kai Akua" at the Lahaina Harbor hours before the sun came up to embark on their deep sea sports fishing charter. The fisherman of Hawaii rely on deep sea buoys known as FAD's (fish aggregation devices) to attract the majority of the fish that are caught. The buoys provides shelter and the algae that grows on the cable provides food for small marine creatures. The larger pelagic (carnivorous) fish that are sought after by sports fisherman are commonly found around these buoys feeding on these creatures. Today we went to the SO buoy that is located far off of the southern coastline of Lanai. We got lucky and landed quite a few Mahi-Mahi. For more information click here...
